Hiya,
I went to the Beauty Africa Expo last Friday which was the final day of the 3-day exhibition and I must say, I had a surprisingly, great time. I say surprisingly because I really had no idea what to expect, but the event was the perfect opportunity to network and meet the faces behind the brands, try out/sample some products (or a 5-minute massage at the Apples & Oranges stand which was AH-MAZING!) or treat yourself to one or two items.

Nectar Beauty Hub was hosting a nail-art competition hosted by Liz Yemoja which looked incredible and there was also a conference room for various speakers. I wish the agenda for these talks was communicated via email or even on their website (I looked!) ahead of time because I would’ve really liked to attend some on Days1 & 2. They had a leader from MAC speaking on Day 2 and I’m still kicking myself that I missed the Beauty In Lagos forum.

All in all, I liked how large and airy the event was. There was a lot of space to chat and none of the vendors were overly pushy trying to make a sale. In fact, a lot of them weren’t even selling products! My only critiscism would be that there weren’t enough local brands; only the spas Barazahi, Apples & Oranges, BMPRO, Beauty Kink, Yanga Beauty (I might be missing a few others) were representing Nigeria. Most of the brands seemed to be slightly obscure (which is fine, I like to discover new brands) but I also would’ve liked to see more internationally-renowned brands exhibiting, where was Black Up, MAC, Inglot, NARS, Iman, Revlon, Charlotte Tilbury?! Or even hair brands like Shea Moisture or nail brands like Essie? OK yes, maybe I’m dreaming too big here but wouldn’t it be incredible to have all these brands under one house here in Nigeria, even if it was just for 3 days? Sigh… A girl can dream… Lol!
I had a great time! I did a little bit of shopping, caught up with some people I hadn’t seen in FOREVER like SisiYemmie (who has the cutest son EVER by the way) and speak to some people about AJALI. I would definitely go again, and hopefully be more involved next year.

This is an event I would have liked to attend, but working gals like me can't be taking time off like that, and dealing with the recently horrendous Lagos traffic.
I was under the impression a lot of Nigerian brands were there. :-S

Major international brands like Charlotte Tillbury may not have been there because they may not sure on how well their products would capture the Nigerian market.
