I Dyed My Hair Purple!

Since I had two bundles of my Nazuri Curls Afro Kinky Curly to dye I decided to buy two boxes of Creme of Nature hair dye in Ginger Blonde and two bottles of Crazy Color in Aubergine. The Creme of Nature hair dye was about N1,300 from Ebeano Supermarket in Lekki. I bought this because it was the brightest blonde color they had. I needed this to act as a bleach and lift the color from the extensions before applying the purple hair dye. And the Crazy Color was about N800 each. They only had the aubergine and a bright red color at the time.

Here are the contents of the Creme of Nature blonde dyes:

I mixed both bottles following the instructions on the boxes. Make sure you lay your work area out with newspapers and plastic bags to protect the floor!

Because I was going for an ombre effect I started off dyeing the bottom third of the hair first:

After about 20 minutes later the tips had started developing and I took the blonde dye up to about two-thirds through the hair:

I was really impressed by how quickly the dye started working (maybe it was the hair dye or maybe it was the Nazuri Curls *cough* lol). After about 20 more minutes I rinsed all the blonde dye out and shampooed the hair and here’s what it looked like:

I towel-dried the hair and added the purple dye to the extensions. Then I placed the hair in a plastic bag and used a blow dryer to heat up the hair for half an hour. The heat helps the dye stick to the hair.

I let the hair air dry then I sewed my extensions into a full wig with a fringe and here was my final look (excuse the blurry picture, this was late at night and I was exhausted from doing my hair all day!):

I was generally very happy with the color. It wasn’t as bright as I originally wanted but it was a lot more wearable than a bright purple color would’ve been. My advice to anyone wanting to venture into the Crazy Color world is to know that these colors rinse ALOT and fade FAST. I like to wet my Afro Kinky Curly extensions so I can finger detangle and condition them daily and every time I did this the color would drip everywhere! Since I’ve made this wig 3 weeks ago I’ve washed the hair three times (always using cold water and a sulphate free shampoo) and the color’s pretty much gone now. It was a fun experiment and I’ve definitely been bitten by the hair dye bug. Maybe I’ll go pink next time:) What do you think about the color and what other bright hair dye brands would you recommend?
