Hi Guys,
I kind of fell off the Reading for Pleasure train in the past few months. I just didn’t feel like I had the time or any interesting books to read. But then I heard about The Fault In Our Stars by John Green and I knew I just had to read it. I’m such a hopeless romantic so this book was right up by street – I got through it in 5 days! If you haven’t heard about this story yet (where have you been living??) it’s about a sixteen-year-old cancer patient named Hazel, who is forced by her parents to attend a support group where she meets and falls in love with the seventeen-year-old Augustus Waters who also has cancer. Now I know that may sound depressing and yes the book is incredibly sad but it’s written in such an open and quirky way it really doesn’t feel like a book about two dying teenagers.
After I finished the book I wanted to see the movie and surprisingly it was a great adaptation. Most times I find movies never do the books they were based on justice but this time they totally did. The movie did a great job bringing the characters to life and made a lot of the scenes surrounding cancer seem more real to me – if that makes sense. It was a little more cringe-y than the book at times and the love scenes were kind of full on. But to be fair I had the pleasure of being in a cinema full of inconsiderate a-holes who decided to laugh, talk and make noise throughout the entire film. It’s kind of hard to enjoy any movie, much less a sad romantic one under those circumstances. All in all, I loved the banter and humour between Hazel and Augustus. The way they looked at life and death forced me to question why I took being healthy and just life in general for granted. It truly is an inspiring book and I’d recommend anyone to read it.
I’ll be reading the New York Times bestseller, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak next. I think it’d be so nice if we could read the book together and get a little online book club going lol. Okay, I cant read OR watch, the fault in our stars right now, I cant deal with that level of love (I know I have issues)…..I was re-watching 'Think Like a Man" and had to mute it at the end when they started all the speeches on love…….I just cant right now…………but yaay to the book thief…..I read Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan…..not a bad book.

Book suggestion: 'The Memory of Love'- Aminatta Forna. It's long, but definitely worth it. I just finished it a few days ago, and I haven't felt so in love with a book in a while!

I haven't read it or watched the movie [yet] but I understand what you mean about the silly people at the theater. It's sooooo blawdy annoying – I think you should have reported them to the cinema workers

I saw the movie the week it started showing. It is awesome! Amazing! A beautiful storyline with beautiful people and extremely moving scenes. I loved it and I'd watch it over and over. I soooo want to get the book, but since I don't exactly like ebooks, I'll wait till I lay my hands on a hard copy. Too eager!

Loved the book but the main characters didn't sound like teenagers…all that philosophical dialogue. have you read Beautiful ruins by Jess Walters? You may love it.
If u haven't yet read Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, what are u waiting for??? That is one unpredictable, crazy, very interesting book. I didnt get what the fuss was about when I kept seeing the name of the book everywhere but now I get it. Cheers, Bk.
