Hi guys!
This is going to be a quick post on some shopping I did over the weekend. When I first decided to go natural I thought my biggest problem would be having access to the right products since I live in Lagos. But I’ve managed to find a lot of great stuff here so I thought I’d share what I picked up the last Sunday.
Castor Oil – I found this at my local pharmacy inside Ebeano Supermarket, Lekki for N550 (£2/$4). Why a pharmacy? Turns out castor oil is used as a remedy for upset stomachs – who knew? Lol. For hair, castor oil is used to repair breakage and stimulate hair growth and thickness. It’s also an excellent humectant and can help with dry, itchy scalp. Yes I know its not Jamaican Black Castor Oil (which is a raw, unrefined version of castor oil) but I was very happy to find this. I figure if it’s good enough to swallow it’s good enough for my hair. Speaking of which, I don’t know how people swallow this. It’s sooooo thick and it has a very faint fishy smell to me. But I mix it up with some other oils before I put it in my hair so it’s fine.
ORS Olive Oil Replenishing Conditioner – I mentioned this product in my Hair Care Regimen post. It’s definitely a Holy Grail product for me. The first time I got this, I ordered if from Amazon after trying (and loving) a sample. So imagine how happy I was to find it at Ebeano for only N890 (£3.50/$6). Amazing!
Dr Organic Tea Tree Oil – I have to share this with you because I’m still very pissed off. So I got this in the pharmacy for N1,600 (£7/$11) only to find it in the hair section upstairs for N1,500, no biggie right? But then I found…
Aiken 100% Tea Tree Oil – for N350!!!!!(£1.40/$2) I was so pissed off! Of course the stupid pharmacy wouldn’t let me return the Dr. Organic one so I ended up buying both of them to compare. And from what I can tell their exactly the same. ARGH! So look out for the Aiken brand guys! Tea tree oil is another favourite of mine because its great for stimulating hair growth as well and I love the tingly feeling it leaves, I find it very refreshing.
Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In – I’ve always wanted to try this so I as pleasantly surprised to find this in Casa Bella, Palms Shopping Centre Lekki for N1,650- steal! Casa Bella definitely has the larget range of hair products I’ve managed to find in Lagos but it can be very pricey – Kinky Curly Knot Today and Carol’s Daughter products start from N6,000 (£24/$40) WTH? So I’d recommend shopping around first.
Vitamin Water Lip Balm – I love Vitamin Water so when I saw this at the till I was all googly-eyed. In all honesty its a pretty basic chapstick, except that its huge! But it smells divine and has SPF 20 so I’ve been loving it. I got the strawberry and kiwi one at Ebeano for N400 (£1.50/2).
And that’s all I got! I think I’ll show you guys how I mix all my oils up when I make my oil blend next – it’s pretty badass lol
Love,
Ifeyinwa
