Heya Lovelies,
One of the styles I’ve been loving during my transition has been these clip in extensions that you can make yourself. They’re amazing because it saves you trip to the salon (which can be every transitioner’s nemesis in Nigeria) and they’re incredibly easy to do!
Here’s what you’ll need:
Weft Clips
Any hair extensions (I’m using my kinky curly virgin Brazilian extensions)
Needle
Black Thread
Scissors
*Tip: If you’re natural or transitioning use hair with a kinkier texture to help the blending process
Cornrow your hair and don’t forget to leave some hair out on your hairline and at your parting to cover the tracks – Take your extensions and measure them to your head. The wefts closer to your neck should be shorter than the wefts at the crown of your head so its important to make sure you have a rough idea of where each track will be placed before cutting or folding your extensions to fit – When you’ve measured your tracks sew the clips onto the weft of the extensions. As a rule of thumb, use a clip every 2-3 inches.

Once you’ve finished sewing all the clips to your tracks, push the clips into your cornrows and press them into place – Repeat the process until you’ve covered your whole head

Since my extensions are curly I put my leave out into 2 Bantu knots overnight to mimic the curl pattern of my extensions. (Two thumbs up for NO HEAT lol)
The next morning, I simply take the bantu knots down, spritz my hair with some conditioner and water, fluff it out and here’s the finished look:
When I first saw the tutorial for this on Shirley B Eniang’s channel on Youtube here my first thought was “how did I not think of this sooner?” it would have saved me sooooo much money in my uni days where I’d have to travel to London to get my hair done and end up spending £100+ *sigh* Oh well…
They’re pretty secure. I’ve made my mom do a tug test and these bad boys stayed put. But they probably wouldn’t survive a Basketball Wives- type brawl so I wouldn’t recommend pissing anyone off with these in lol. Also I don’t even feel these clips when they’re in so I can sleep comfortably with my extensions in. I just keep them in all week until I’m ready to wash and deep condition my hair at the weekend. That’s what makes it so great for me – it’s the perfect solution in between wearing a wig or getting a weave. So try it out and let me know what you think.
Love,
Ifeyinwa

You rock Annamay! Thanks xx
how long does this stay in btw?x
Hey again! I keep mine in for a week at a time because I like to wash and DC my hair on the weekends. But I think you could easily stretch it to 2 weeks.. I've had the clips sewed to the wefts for 3 weeks. And I wash my extensions with the clips on them, it's done pretty well I'd say lol xx
SO DOING!!!!!
It's a must Kiki! Lemme know when you've tried it xx
Love it! Definitely have to try this out!
You totally should!! Xx

Hehe thanks! Glitter nail polish rules <3
That blend is gorgeous – have to try these clip-on's!! How do you do your bantu-knots? My hair doesn't hold them at all…
Yasmine!! Thanks girl. I do those Bantu knots on hair thats 80% dry (so I'd spritz it with water really lightly) then in really small sections I twist my hair and wrap it around.. Hmmm I might just do a tutorial actually lol
If you already have long hair, you can thicken it up a bit and gain the volume you want with clip in hair extensions
Yes of course you can! xx
WOW! What an idea. Thanks for your blog about making hair extensions procedure. I will try by myself in the lonely house.
